Who We Are

Audible Originals UK commission and create award-winning, thought-provoking, boundary pushing audio, from podcasts to scripted dramas to stand-up comedy and beyond. We make people laugh, we make them think, and we help inspire them to live their lives to the fullest. Most importantly, we tell great stories.

We work across a variety of genres, including comedy, factual and drama. We love ideas that blur the borders between genres, or represent something we’ve never quite heard before.

We work with great talent across the entire spectrum of production and we want to help you bring the best of your craft to our medium.

Some of our past works include: West Cork, The Kurupt FM Podkast, Stephen Fry’s Victorian Secrets, People, Just People with Dermot O’Leary, The Beautiful Brain, To The Woman with Scarlett Curtis, The Sun King, The Goodies, A Grown-Up Guide to Dinosaurs, Slaving Away with Miranda Kane, Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds and The Infirmary by LJ Ross.

Our commitment to representation

Audible in the UK is committed to being a destination for the best and most representative talent who will recognise it as a place where their ideas, creativity and difference will be nurtured and celebrated. All talent will thrive here, knowing that they are welcome, heard, valued and represented in the work we are proud to produce.

What We're Looking For

  • We want storytelling placed at the forefront of your idea, whether that is through narrative writing or a format that gives a show clear structure.
  • We are looking to highlight diversity, representation, and inclusion across all aspects of production.
  • We want to see dynamic, exciting, pitches across a variety of formats. It must be clear how your show will grab a listener’s attention from the initial description through to the final episode.
  • Talent is of central importance – we support exciting new talent as well as ambitious casting.

You will find more guidance on specific genre briefs in the pitch forms below.

Please do not submit:

  • Audiobook proposals (please visit ACX if you wish to self-publish your audiobook)
  • Auditions for voice over or narrator work
  • Intellectual Property to which you do not have the rights

Submissions that fall into one of these categories will not be considered and will be deleted.

Submitting your Pitches to Audible Originals UK

We have two main commissioning forms below:

Writer/Agent Pitches

Please use this form to submit scripted drama and comedy pitches that do not have a producer or production company attached. This form is for agents on behalf of writer clients, or un-agented writers who have been asked by a member of the commissioning team to submit on their own behalf.

Producer/Production Company Pitches

Please use this form to submit original programming pitches if you are a producer or production company. We will require you to submit a pitch that includes a proposed timeline, and both episode and series prices.

Please be aware that, if your pitch is successful, it may take some time to go from submission to final commission. You will receive an email confirmation of receipt upon submission, and then follow-up correspondence to let you know if we would like to discuss your pitch any further. We aim to get back to you as soon as possible, but due to the volume of submissions we receive, please be aware that this could take up to 12 weeks from submission.

Drama brief

Feel Good –We’re looking for fun RomComs that subvert old tropes and tell stories of modern sex, dating, and love; comforting nostalgic listens (80s, 90s, 00s); upbeat Musicals; hopeful tales of greatness; and utopian societies. Storytelling that delivers a mood altering fix and escape from reality.

Thrills and Spills– we’re looking for stories that are going to hook you early and keep you listening to the end. Thrillers, SciFi, Fantasy, and Horror with strong mysteries, and cliff-hanger episode outs. We’re interested in elevated Genre series that deliver on thrills, but also with surprising and timely themes, emotional story beats, compelling characters, and dazzling writing.

Simplicity, Intimacy, Impact – Stories will be commercial but never generic, surprising but never confusing. We’re masters at fantastical epics, but we’re also eager to find intimate series with small casts, limited locations, and tight plotting. Examples from film and TV include State of the Nation, Criminal, and The Guilty, and from podcasts– The Bright Sessions, The Shadows, and Carrier.

Representation – we want to build a list that authentically reflects the full spectrum of identities and lived experiences, and encourage submissions from underrepresented creators.

Global– we’re looking for global appeal with a foot in the UK.

Returning– we’re looking for series with the potential to return, though we recognize some stories are more impactfulas a one off and will make a huge, if one-time, splash.

Universal Meets Unfamiliar -- Weave unfamiliar story elements together with a familiar story structure/setting/trope to invite audiences to new stories.

Why Audio – while we believe there some ideas initially developed for other mediums can transition to great audio pieces, every series must have a compelling reason why audio is its best form.

Adaptations – we’re known for traditional classic adaptations like Austen, as well as modern classics like Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman. We aim to deliver the most ambitious adaptations and expansions of well-loved IP to serve super-fans.

Comedy brief

In the comedy space, we’d like shows with a wide appeal – but note we have a smart, culturally engaged audience who don’t need to be dumbed-down to. We’re looking for that sweet spot of smart, but not niche; broad, but not lowbrow. Comedy shows will be assessed first and foremost on their ability to make our audience laugh; but we’re interested in shows that use humour to help our audience learn something new, or see things in a new way.

We want original, laugh-out-loud programming, not quiet, cozy or gentle background listening. Any pitches should demonstrate how the show will grab attention – whether that’s with a brilliant, eye-catching premise or format, a very original and timely concept, or just a really strong piece of casting. Please note that we’re very talent-centered, and will support the very highest-level talent and ideas.

In terms of theme and content, please bear in mind we’re looking for shows that listeners can enjoy for a long time to come – so while ‘zeitgeist’ issues (e.g. the environment, populism, etc.) are great, ‘topical’ (e.g. what happened today in Parliament) is not a great fit.

We’re happy to receive pitches that involve existing characters (e.g. our ‘Kurupt FM Podkast’ and ‘The Goodies’ shows), but please indicate that you have access and details of the rights position.

We especially welcome shows with the potential to work with a US audience.

We’re open to a range of scripted programmes; continual narrative, sitcom, semi-improvised, mockumentary.… as long as the format is original and funny.

NB: Please also submit a writing sample of at least two or three scenes from the script, unless your writer has a very substantial back catalogue of successful writing in this space.

We want original, laugh-out-loud programming, not quiet, cozy or gentle background listening. Any pitches should demonstrate how the show will grab attention – whether that’s with a brilliant, eyecatching premise or format, a very original and timely concept, or just a really strong piece of casting. Please note that we’re very talent-centered, and will support the very highest-level talent and ideas, so don’t be afraid to be ambitious with casting.

We’re open to a range of formats: scripted, non-scripted, conversation-based, stand up, panel, sketch… as long as the format is original and funny.

If you’re submitting a studio/conversation-based show, please ensure you have a distinctive angle, subject matter, and talent in the format (i.e. not *just* two comedians have a general chat).

If you’re pitching a scripted series (sketch, sitcom, etc), please also submit a writing sample of at least two or three scenes from the script, unless your writer has a very substantial back catalogue of successful writing in this space.

In terms of theme and content, please bear in mind we’re looking for shows that can listeners can enjoy for a long time to come – so while ‘zeitgeist’ issues (e.g. the environment, populism, etc) are great, ‘topical’ (e.g. what happened today in Parliament) is not a great fit.

Factual brief

We want brilliant stories that you can’t put down. In our eyes this means well-written, precise storytelling with clear narrative arcs and something at stake. Stories should follow a compelling character and have a clear beginning, middle, and end. We’re looking for a willingness to pay particular attention to scripting and research. We’d encourage you to listen to current Audible programmes like The Sun King, Putin: Prisoner of Power, and The Beautiful Brain that focus on characters as they explore a wider societal issue.

When pitching true crime, we want to see how you plan on elevating the genre beyond the traditional tropes.

For episodic, thematic treatments, we are looking for well-defined, structured episodes with an overarching narrative thread that build on another in an episode arc. We want sustainable themes that have enough depth to encourage listening over the entire series. Science and history fit well into this category, and we want to create a sense of wonder and fascination for the listener.

If pitching a chat/studio-based show, we want to see a unique and specific angle to your discussions or concept. This could be a news and current affairs programme or a sports programme. The best chat shows have storytelling at the heart of them, even if it’s a conversation between friends, so we’d like to see how your show explores that.

We're looking to work with presenters who are known in their field and command an audience. A distinctive presenter can sometimes open up new angles to a story that has been told before.

Budget (applicable across all genres): A full detailed budget is not required initially, but all show pitches should be submitted with a per episode and series price. You will be asked to submit a full budget if your pitch is taken to the next stage.
